Our Founder Joins “Machine Learning vs. Human Learning” Expert Panel for Innovate UK

This week, our founder, Jason Mashinchi, spoke on a panel of industry experts at the “Machine Learning vs. Human Learning – What Have We Learned?” event at St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge. Hosted by Innovate UK, the discussion explored how AI-driven innovation and human creativity are shaping the future of work and learning.

Why Jason Founded Cambridge Kinetics

Following a keynote by Dr. David McLaughlan, panelists were asked about their journeys into AI. Jason explained his motivation for creating Cambridge Kinetics and our Kinabase software: he saw a gap between complex enterprise systems and accessible data-management tools. His goal is to help organisations move beyond routine admin tasks, so they can focus on innovation, growth, and making the most of their data with AI.

A Cautiously Optimistic Future

When asked about AI’s potential, Jason emphasised his optimism:

"AI is going to let people achieve more with their time. It's really going to level the playing field so that smaller businesses who could never compete in the past are able to achieve way more with their resources."

He envisions AI as a way to break free from repetitive tasks, allowing teams to concentrate on higher-value work where human insight and creativity matter most.

Data Security, Control, and Emergent Skillsets

The panel also tackled the importance of data security and governance. As AI capabilities grow, protecting sensitive information becomes increasingly critical. This has created a need for new skillsets in AI, analytics, and data governance, ensuring businesses of all sizes can deploy AI responsibly and safely.

Continuing the Conversation

Events like this at St John’s Innovation Centre highlight the forward-thinking spirit of Cambridge’s tech community. We at Cambridge Kinetics are excited about AI’s potential to make advanced business management accessible to organisations of all sizes.

While debates around an “AI utopia vs. dystopia” continue, speakers - including Jason - stressed that a human-centric approach, backed by robust data practices, can unlock significant benefits. AI can reduce busywork and free people to focus on strategic, interpersonal, and creative pursuits.

A big thank you to Reuben Isbitsky and the team at St John’s Innovation Centre for organising such a thoughtful discussion. We’re proud that Jason and Cambridge Kinetics could be part of the conversation, and we look forward to continuing it with our partners, clients, and the wider tech community.
